1957 Fender Musicmaster for sale on Craigslist

Very few affordable vintage 1950’s and 1960’s Fender guitars are available these days.  One exception to this rule is the Fender Musicmaster.  Here’s a great example of a 1957 Fender Musicmaster listed on Craigslist in the Lowell, MA area for $1,200.  Click here to view the ad.

The original Musicmasters were 3/4 scale guitars intended for the student market.  Nonetheless, they were built with the same Fender quality as the top of the line Stratocasters and Telecasters of the time and have been used by many professional guitarists over the years.  Artists who’ve played  Musicmasters include David Byrne, Rory Gallagher, Richard Lloyd, John McLaughlin, Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo, Liz Phair, Patti Smith, Tom Verlaine and Johnny Winter.

You have to wonder how long these guitars will remain at rock bottom vintage prices.  Might be a good time to grab one before collectors and players discover these vintage Fender gems.

1980/1981 Kramer XKB-10 Wedge Bass

Kramer XKB-10 Vintage Bass

Kramer XKB-10 Vintage Bass

Kramer offered the XKB line of basses and the XKG series of guitars beginning in 1980.   The XKB-10 basses had a wedge shaped body and were only produced in 1980 to 1981.  You don’t find many of these for sale but here’s a nice example currently listed on the Austin, TX area Craigslist for $700.  Click here to view the ad.

Other than the wedge shape, the most notable feature of these basses was the aluminum neck construction.   The back of the neck contained two slots running the length of the neck that held wood inserts.  The aluminum construction was intended to provide greater sustain while the wood inserts were intended to reduce the cold feel of the metal.

The Kramer aluminum neck era ran from 1976 to 1985 before the company changed over to more popular wood neck models.
