We developed the Guitar Chase website to help guitar and bass enthusiasts find great deals on classic and vintage instruments. Yes, they are out there, but it’s usually necessary to search multiple web sites, hundreds of internet listings and overpriced dealer inventories to find just the right instrument or piece of equipment.
At Guitar Chase our goal is to save you some of the work by sifting the internet for some of the best guitar, bass, amplifier and effects finds and by featuring a few of the best deals in our Featured Listings below.
If you happen to spot a guitar, bass or amp for sale online that you believe is worth featuring and sharing with our readers, feel free to send us the link in either the Reader Contributions or the Contact Us tabs. All contributions will be considered, but we especially like to feature specials classic guitars that may be slightly rare, but still are suitable for everyday use.
1971 Gibson SG for sale on Craigslist
We saw this Gibson SG listed for sale on the Lompoc area Craigslist for $1,200 and thought we’d pass it along to anyone who might be in the market for an older SG. Click here to view the ad. The lister says it’s mostly original (except for tuners and frets) and includes the original case.
Prices on these older SG’s are likely headed higher. This might be a good opportunity to grab a great sounding vintage guitar for less than the price of a new one.

1969 Fender Telecaster for sale on Craigslist
As anyone shopping for a vintage Telecaster knows, collectors have pushed prices into the stratosphere. Here’s one that’s been refinished that is listed for a relatively reasonable price of $3999 on the New York City Craigslist. Collectors won’t like the refinished part, but it might be a chance for the player to pick up a 46 year old Telecaster for a good price. Click here to view the ad.
1975 Fender P-bass for Sale on Craigslist
A very playable 1975 Fender P-bass is currently listed for sale on the Corinth, MS area Craigslist for $1,600. Click here to view the ad.
The bass has been refinished at some point, however this seems to be fairly reflected in the asking price and may be a chance for the non-collector to get a great vintage P-bass at a reasonable price. Worth checking out if you are in the market for a P-bass.
1959 Gibson 18A amp listed for sale on Craigslist
A very cool vintage Gibson amp listed on Craigslist in the Portland, OR area for only $600. Click here to view the ad.
The ad lists it as a 1959 model, however since Gibson built these with tremelo from 1960 to 1962, it’s more likely from one of those years.. Most of these Gibson tweed amps from made from 1955 to 1965 can really deliver a great tone, comparable to many classic Fender models but at a lower price. The 18A has 14 watts of power and might make a very nice amp for smaller venues and/or recording.
This particular amp lacks the original tween covering but appears to be a mostly original and fully functional amp. Might be a great choice for the non-collector who actually wants to play the amp.
1965 Gibson Melody Maker for sale on Craigslist
It’s difficult to find a 1960’s vintage Gibson for around $1000. Here’s a 1965 Gibson Melody maker listed for $1,050 on the Chicago, IL area Craigslist. Click here to view the ad.
Introduced in 1959, the Melody Maker featured a single cutaway similar to the Les Paul Junior body style except thinner. In 1961, Gibson changed the to the two cutaways body style seen on this guitar. The Melody Maker model was discontinued in 1971 but has been re-issued a number of times up until the present. Notable Melody Maker players include Pat Travers, Joan Jett and Keith Urban.
This particular guitar appears to be mostly original with a few non-original parts that could easily be replaced with period correct pieces.
